McGladrey Classic offers fun for spectators on AND off the course on St. Simons Island

October has long been a favorite month for golf in the Golden Isles. This year the stakes have been raised and the inaugural McGladrey Classic, the PGA TOUR’s newest event, will put a national spotlight on the world-class golf and beautiful attractions found in Brunswick and the Golden Isles.

Contested on St. Simons Island at Sea Island Golf Club’s venerable Seaside course, the tournament promises to be a unique and spectacular event as host Davis Love III, a longtime Golden Isles resident, and other PGA Tour notables including three top contenders for the FedEx Cup, Matt Kuchar, Ben Crane and Zach Johnson, compete for the win.

The McGladrey Classic offers spectators an exceptional experience including four days of world-class golf, and the Golden Isles will provide an idyllic backdrop for walks along beautiful beaches, luscious meals, limitless activities and warm Southern hospitality.

The tournament will be held October 6-10, 2010 and all proceeds will benefit Special Olympics and two local charities for children and families - the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia and Safe Harbor Children’s Center, located in the Golden Isles. Limited daily and weekly ticket packages for spectators are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis and are available at www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

Renowned for the superior golf courses, coaching and teaching facilities, the region also provides a rich life off the course, making it a truly special location for residents and visitors to the area. Area highlights include miles of sun-drenched beaches, 180 holes of golf, historic sites and museums, fishing and watersports, quaint specialty shops and galleries, nature programs, and more creating a memorable experience just steps away from the tournament gates.

Showcasing the area’s rich culture, history and genuine hospitality, the tournament is sure to become a Golden Isles tradition for spectators and players alike.
